PM Shehbaz Sharif Insists ECP Announce Judgment In PTI Funding Case
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has asked the Elections Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to announce the judgement in the prohibited funding case against the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) that has been pending since November 2014.

The PTI funding case alleging prohibited funding —previously known as the foreign funding case — was filed by founding member Akbar S Babar, who is no longer associated with the party. Babar had alleged that there were serious financial irregularities in the party’s funding from within Pakistan and internationally.

Last month, the ECP reserved its judgement on the case, saying it would announce the result at a later date.

The PM today (Tuesday) in a tweet urged the ECP to announce the 'long-delayed' verdict of the prohibited funding case against the PTI.

He said, "For long has Imran Niazi been given a free pass despite his repeated & shameless attacks on state institutions. Impunity given to him has hurt the country."

The PM's statement came days after the PTI emerged victorious in the Punjab by-elections, clinching 15 out of 20 vacant Punjab Assembly seats.

A day after the elections, PTI Chairperson Imran Khan during an address to supporters criticized the ECP Chief Election Commissioner Sikander Sultan Raja for being biased, and demanded his resignation for favoring the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) during electoral battles.

After Imran’s address, PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz demanded that the ECP issue its verdict in the foreign funding case soon, saying “There is irrefutable evidence against Imran which has to be revealed inevitably.”
