Muhammad Zakriya Khan of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam - F (JUI-F), a winning candidate in the village council elections in Peshawar, was accidentally killed by celebratory gun shots fired by his supporters after his victory. The incident took place in the city's Surizai area.
Khan had won a General Councillor seat for the local Village Council. As is the norm, supporters of the victorious candidate engage in aerial firing to celebrate the victory. A stray bullet hit Zakriya Khan and he died at the spot.
According to SAMAA TV, policemen were present when the incident took place, but they did nothing. The reporter also said that the celebrations soon turned into grief with the news of Khan's death.
