Defence Minister Khawaja Asif on Monday said that the process to appoint the chief of army staff (COAS) and joint chiefs of staff committee (JCSC) had kicked-off.
His tweet follows weeks of nationwide frenzy on the pivotal military appointments. In his tweet, Asif said, the process to make appointments against top army posts had commenced on Monday (today). The appointments, he said, will be made in line with the Constitution.
Citing his fabled sparrow (chirhya), The Friday Times editor Najam Sethi said earlier on Friday that a summary for the appointment of the next army chief had reached the prime minister.
He made the comments in flagship Naya Daur TV show Khabar Say Aagay. Sethi said neither be ‘AA’ nor ‘SS’. The senior-most general will be named COAS, he said.
The star journalist said Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan had been informed that his efforts had come to naught. Neither would his long march amount to much nor will his favourite be named army chief.
