He was born on October 17, 1931, in Delhi, India, to illustrious educationist Sufi Muhammad Saghir Hasan from Amritsar and leading poet Rabia Pinhan from Bareilly.

There, he became a regular columnist for Pakistan's evening newspapers, The Daily News and Leader, where his sharp wit and insightful commentary earned him widespread respect. He also authored Matters of Moment, a satirical book on international, Pakistani, and British politics.
