Taliban threat turns out school prank 


Reported in Jang (December 13, 2015) a threatening letter and a live bullet believed to have been sent by Taliban to the headmistress of a private primary school in Okara turned out to a likely prank by students. Police said it seems to have been written by a Class 4 student. There had been an argument between Class 4 students at the school.

Citizens shower flower petals on Rangers vehicle in Karachi 


According to Express (December 14, 2015) unidentified citizens showered flower petals (phoolon ki barish) on a Rangers patrol vehicle in Karachi. Seven or eight unidentified men appeared (namoodar hue) on motorcycles at the Karachi Arts Council crossway and threw flower petals at the van parked there.

Salman Butt’s car stolen from his house


Dunya reports (December 14, 2015) famous cricketer Salman Butt’s car was stolen from his home in Lahore. The thieves broke into his house at night and fled with the vehicle.

Three arrested after posing with Kalashnikov on Facebook 


Three men were arrested from Gujranwala for posing with Kalashnikovs on Facebook, reports Nawa-e-Waqt (December 15, 2015). Police also seized three Kalashnikovs and one 244-bore rifle from them.

Jamshed Dasti vs Ayaz Sadiq 


Reported in Dunya (December 16, 2015) a serious scuffle (shadeed jharrap) broke out in the National Assembly between member Jamshed Dasti and Speaker Ayaz Sadiq. The speaker said Dasti should straighten his act (rawayya darust karain) or he would get him thrown out. Jamshed Dasti said he would resist (choorriyan nahee pehen rakheen).

Nawa-e-Waqt repots (December 16, 2015) a boy trying to take a selfie with an approaching train on a railway track was hit by the train and died. He was on his way to college when he stopped to take a picture.

Young man abducts himself for ransom


Reported in Jang (December 17, 2015) a young man in Lahore who seemed to have been abducted for a ransom of Rs 800,000 turned out to be hiding in his aunt’s house. He had been lying (drama rachaya) to get the money.

Batteries powering PTCL exchange stolen 


Nai Baat reports (December 17, 2015) unidentified thieves stole eight batteries powering a PTCL mini-exchange in Kamalia. The loss of batteries caused an internet breakdown in the area.

If I’m threatened, I will come to Pakistan: Om Puri 


Quoted in Express (December 18, 2015) Indian actor Om Puri says if he feels threatened by Hindu extremists in India, he will come to Pakistan. He was talking to reporters during his visit to Lahore.

Woman reaches Dubai on son’s passport


Reported in Nawa-e-Waqt (December 19, 2015) a woman got through PIA staff, the FIA and immigration officials to travel to Dubai using her son’s passport. She was deported from Dubai and the PIA was fined 5,000 dirhams. Upon her return to Lahore, the woman protested against the authorities for letting her through.
