On PPP and corruption


The PML-N’s Mushahid Ullah Khan, according to Daily Dunya (26 February 2018), opined that when his party took power in 2013, there was a common international perception about corruption in Pakistan, because the PPP considered corruption to be a form of worship (ibadat).


Preparations


Sahibzada Hamid Raza of the Sunni Ittehad Council was quoted by Daily Dunya (26 February 2018) as saying that Nawaz Sharif’s cell in jail was ready. He further stated that the Sharif family will not go to Jeddah but rather to jail this time.


On management


Federal Minister for Defence Production and Minister for Science and Technology Rana Tanveer Hussain, according to Daily Dunya (26 February 2018) stated that change (tabdeeli) does not come about through marriages, but by working hard by day and night for the progress of the country. He went on to say that two or three marriages are not bravery (bahaduri), but that managing (sambhalna) these marriages is true bravery – and that Imran Khan was lacking in that ability.


Duty calls


Maulana Muhammad Amjad Khan of the JUI, according to Daily Dunya (26 February 2018) is of the view that a secular lobby is currently active, but that religious forces were in the field to counter it.


On the opposition


The Chief Minister of Punjab, Shehbaz Sharif, was quoted by Daily Nawa-i-Waqt (26 February 2018) as saying that Imran Khan had become the captain of liars (jhooton ke kaptaan).


Recommendations


Former strongman General (R.) Pervez Musharraf, according to Daily Jang (28 February 2018), feels that Imran Khan wants to do something for the country and is an honest person, but that he needs to learn more about governance.


Vision 2023


Captain (R.) Safdar was quoted by Daily Jang (01 March 2018) as saying that Nawaz Sharif would become PM again after 2018. He further stated that those who brought Imran Khan in to oppose Nawaz Sharif did not want a solution to the Kashmir issue, because Nawaz Sharif would ensure that Kashmir is liberated by 2023 (azad karwaein ge).


Whose Pakistan?


Speaking about the sentence he had just served, according to Daily Nawa-i-Waqt (01 March 2018), Nehal Hashmi of the PML-N stated that this was not the Pakistan of Baba Rehmata but that of Baba-e-Qaum Quaid-e-Azam. He had also said that Pakistan was not for the conspirators, but that India was for them.


Policing


Daily Express (02 March 2018) reported that two policemen got into a fight at a barber’s shop, resulting in both needing to be hospitalised for their injuries.


Hands down?


The PPP’s Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, according to Daily Jang (02 March 2018), expressed his view that Nawaz Sharif was the teacher (ustad) of horse-trading and that it was not possible to compete with him in that field.


Up to the awam…


Sheikh Rasheed was quoted by Daily Express (03 March 2018) as saying that a future strategy would be decided after the Senate elections. He stated that it was possible that they would lose the elections, but that if the people (awam) liked thieves and robbers (chor daku) then he could not do anything about it.
