Imran Protests Against Haleem Adil Sheikh's Arrest In Sindh

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairperson Imran Khan has condemned the arrest of Sindh Assembly Opposition Leader Haleem Adil Sheikh, claiming that the move was an attempt by the 'Zardari Mafia' to silence his voice.

PTI leader and Sindh Assembly Opposition Leader Haleem Adil Sheikh was arrested by the Anti-Encroachment Force (AEF) on August 17 in a land-grabbing case after a judge had revoked his interim pre-arrest bail for failing to show up before the court on the same day.

According to the AEF, Sheikh had illegally occupied 40 acres of state land in Manghopir near Northern Bypass, in Karachi. On Monday August 22, he was granted bail by the Special Court Public Property (Removal of Encroachment) against a surety bond of Rs100,000.

Imran Khan tweeted against his arrest, claiming that the 'Zardari Mafia' had attempted to silence his voice.

"Haleem has a broken leg and is on hunger strike in jail," said Khan, adding, "We demand his immediate release and an end to his political victimisation and torture."

However, despite being granted bail, the police authorities at the Karachi central prison refused to release Sheikh. His counsel Advocate Mahsud approached the prison authorities with the release order of his client, but Jail Superintendent Hassan Sehto said Sheikh could not be released as his custody was required in some 'undisclosed' cases.
