'IK Did Not Want Alvi To Green-Light Munir's COAS Appointment'
Analyst Muzamal Suharwardy said on Thursday that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan did not want President Alvi to sign the summary on General Asim Munir's appointment as chief of army staff (COAS).

Suharwardy made the comments in flagship Naya Daur show Khabar Say Aagay. Khan, he said, wanted Alvi to express reservations. Alvi, however, was not in a position to accede. He had asked the president to approve General Sahir Shamshad Mirza's appointment on the other hand. The analyst said a consensus had eluded the the two at their Lahore meeting.

Khan, Suharwardy said, did not want General Asim Munir to be named COAS. The analyst said the PTI supremo's entire narrative over the last eight months was premised on this.

Naya Daur executive editor Murtaza Solangi said the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) wanted General Azhar Abbas appointed chairman joint chiefs of staff committee. Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) co-chairman Asif Ali Zaridari, Solangi said, had allayed reservations over General Mirza's appointment.

Flagship Naya Daur show Khabar Say Aagay streams Monday to Saturday at 9pm.
