Baloch Liberation Army (BLA)'s Majeed Brigade has claimed responsibility for the blast outside the University of Karachi (KU)'s Confucius Institute in which three Chinese nationals and another person lost their lives while two others sustained injuries.
Sindh Inspector General Police Mushtaq Ahmed Mahar confirmed the number of deaths. According to the chief minister office, CM Murad Ali Shah was informed by IG Mahar that the explosion took place in a van at 2.30PM.
The slain Chinese nationals have been identified as Confucius Institute Director Huang Guiping, Ding Mupeng, Chen Sa. Their Pakistani driver named Khalid was also killed in the blast.
As per the authorities, two other people, Wang Yuging and Hamid, were wounded in the attack.
Footage being run on TV channels showed a white van damaged due to fire with smoke rising from it and the windows of a building near the blast site were shattered.
