A court has rejected the police request seeking extension in physical remand of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Senior Vice President Fawad Chaudhry and sent him to jail on a 14-day judicial remand in the sedition case filed against him by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).
The police told the court that the remand was necessary for further investigation. However, the court rejected the plea.
Earlier, the court approved a two-day physical remand of the PTI leader while rejecting the Islamabad Police’s request of eight-day physical remand of the former minister.
During the hearing, the PTI leader denied all charges and termed the FIR as fake.
While giving arguments in the court, Fawad’s lawyers had said that their client was a target of political victimization. He added that the PTI leader expressed his views in Lahore but a case had been registered in Islamabad.
