Columnist Muzamal Suharwardy said on Thursday that a level playing field for all political parties would only be ensured with the disqualification of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan.
Suharwardy made the comments in flagship Naya Daur TV show Khabar Say Aagay. He said Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) president Maryam Nawaz had been politically emancipated today. The columnist said selective accountability was congruent to vengeance.
Suharwardy said justice had been meted out today. Earlier Avenfield proceedings, he said, exemplified vengeance.
The columnist said PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif's return to Pakistan would be timed to match developments. He said the former prime minister would return either following in "November", after the ascension of the PML-N to power in the Punjab or Imran's disqualification. The PTI chairman's disqualification, he said, would ensure a level playing field for all political parties.
Lawyer Abdul Moiz Jaferii said justice delayed was akin to justice denied. He said no one had dared to go after the judiciary in a fashion similar to how Imran was hounding the establishment.
Jaferii said the prosecution could not be singled for flak in connection with the Avenfield case. Judges in Pakistan, he said, greenlighted cases to be framed. They then, Jaferii said, heard the cases themselves.
He said accountability standards were so poor in Pakistan that now the PML-N would appoint judges of its choice and tread the path of vengeance.
He said the chief justice was not in a position to appoint judges of his choice. This, he said, was the consequence of his predecessors' actions.
Flagship Naya Daur TV show Khabar Say Aagay streams Monday to Saturday at 9pm.
