A known terrorist wanted for targeted killings, kidnapping for ransom, and attacks against security forces has been killed in North Waziristan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during an intelligence-based operation by security forces, as per the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) that issued a statement on Monday.
Known as Mobeen alias Majrooh, the terrorist was killed during an exchange of gunfire in the Dossali area of North Waziristan after security forces received a tip regarding his whereabouts. A cache of weapons and ammunition were also confiscated by armed forces.
Pakistani security forces have been on extensive search operations in recent weeks following a wave of terrorist attacks across the country.
Dozens have been killed in recent terror attacks in Balochistan, including Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) Senator Sarfaraz Bugti’s cousin, who was killed in a landmine explosion. Ten soldiers were killed in Kech, Balochistan when a group or militants fired on a military camp during a nighttime attack on January 25.
"During intense exchange of fire, one terrorist was killed and several injured. While repulsing terrorists' fire raid, 10 soldiers embraced martyrdom," a statement from ISPR said of the incident.
A week earlier, a bomb blast in the crowded Anarkali Market in Lahore killed three and injured dozens more on January 20. The same week, Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) militants attacked a checkpoint in Islamabad, killing one police officer and injuring two more.
This is the second terrorist killed by security forces in North Waziristan in as many weeks. Last week, a terrorist known as an expert in planting IEDs, and also wanted for targeted killings and kidnapping, was killed in North Waziristan's Spinwam area.
