Punjab To Crackdown on Corrupt Officials Facilitating Illegal Construction
The interim government in Punjab has decided to clean house and take action against its officers who have allegedly facilitated illegal construction within their assigned areas.

In a statement issued by the Punjab Caretaker Information and Local Government Minister Aamir Mir on Monday, he said that the relevant departments had been directed to review construction activity across the province. In the areas where it has been proven that construction activity took place illegally, the building and zonal planning officers will be immediately blacklisted.

Mir said that those officers found to be operating on behalf of the builder mafia would be immediately suspended.

He added that the builder mafia operating with free rein had raised questions on the integrity and efficacy of the local government department.

Taking action against such actors will surely improve public perception of government departments, he hoped.

Mir said that not only are encroachments increasing, impacting civil planning, but also putting an unaccounted for burden on available utilities and impacting revenue.
