Daily Jang (13 May 2019) reported on news that PM Narendra Modi had commented on the intrusion by Indian aircraft into Pakistani airspace by saying that he thought cloud cover would prevent them from being picked up by radar.


Commenting on the arrest of the son and the cousin of PML-N leader Ameer Muqam, according to Daily Jang (15 May 2019), Shehbaz Sharif told “Niazi sahib” (PM Imran Khan) that it was wrong to take revenge from young people for the political opposition of their elders. As the value of the rupee reached a new low vis-a-vis the US dollar, it was reported by Daily Jang (16 May 2019) that PM Imran Khan ordered action against currency exchange concerns which overpriced the dollar.


According to Daily Dunya (18 May 2019), Health Advisor Dr. Zafar Mirza toured the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) hospital in disguise (bheys badal ke) so that he could see the situation for himself. He reportedly also stood in line alongside patients so as to ascertain the attitudes of hospital staff.


PM Imran Khan was quoted by Daily Dunya (18 May 2019) as saying that the difficult decisions had been made and that Pakistan will soon emerge from the difficult economic situation.

People’s CM

CM Punjab Usman Ali Buzdar, according to Daily Express (18 May 2019), opined that the people had already rejected those who relied on empty slogans (khoklay naaray). He emphasized that in the past 9 months, his administration had done nothing but serve the people.

Wisdom from OGRA

The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA), according to Daily Dunya (19 May 2019), recommended increases of 235 percent in gas tarriffs. The regulatory body further recommended that gas prices be brought down for the rich and hiked up for the poor.

Conspiratorial Iftar

Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Firdous Ashiq Awan was quoted by Daily Express (19 May 2019) as saying that in the holy month of Ramazan, a conspiracy against the elected government had been hatched in the name of an Iftar gathering.
