Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah has said that 'strict action' would be taken against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders if they hold another long march, warning that the leaders would be arrested as soon as they begin preparations.
Addressing a press conference on Tuesday, Rana Sanaullah said that 'strict action' would be taken against the PTI if it announced another long march. He called the events of the last long march on May 25 an 'attack on the Center'.
“The lawmakers deviated from their oath, law and Constitution in order to fulfil the criminal agenda of their political leader Imran Khan,” he claimed, terming May 25’s “Azadi March” an “anti-state conspiracy”, as opposed to a political activity, that used up resources of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government.
He further mentioned that there was video proof of people carrying weapons and arms at the Swabi rally, claiming, “This is was a ‘fitna and fasad march’ and PTI supporters came intending to spread chaos.”
The interior minister also said that the number of people that attended the long march was a mere few thousand, contrary to claims by PTI leadership, who had been expecting a 'sea of people'.
Sanaullah said that a recommendation was made during the federal cabinet meeting that cases should be registered against PTI leaders and party workers.
When asked about the possibility of Imran Khan announcing another march, he said, “let them come and I’ll see how they cross barriers this time.” He added that he would make sure leaders and members were arrested the same day they began their preparations.
