Reported in Jang (April 19, 2015) when a magistrate raided a wedding in Ferozewala for violating the one-dish rule, the guests attacked him, beat him up, and tore his clothes.

Suspicious device in Sukkur Barrage

According to Dunya (April 20, 2015) a suspicious device that flowed to gates of Sukkur Barrage shook the administration (tarthalli mach gayee). When swimmers fetched the device, it was a Hindu prasad box from a nearby village fitted with LED lights.

Cop ‘stole another cop’s motorcycle from police parking’

Jang reports (April 20, 2015) an assistant sub-inspector in Lahore was arrested for stealing the motorcycle of a fellow policeman right from the parking of the office of DIG Investigations.

Schoolboys beaten up for complaining about beating

According to Nawa-e-Waqt (April 21, 2015) when a class 7 student at a private school in Gujranwala complained to the principal of physical abuse by a new teacher, the principal rained slaps on him and beat him up with shoes until he passed out. When his brother went to the school to complain, he was also beaten up.

Sheikh Rashid pushed his way to army chief

Jang says (April 22, 2015) Sheikh Rashid pushed and shoved people (dhakkam pail) to shake hands with the army chief at the Chinese president’s address to the parliament. The army chief was the center of attention at the event and lawmakers lined up (tanta bandh gya) to meet him.

Chinese president laughed at Nawaz Sharif

Nai Baat claims (April 22, 2015) when Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif read out a written statement to the parliament in his usual style, the Chinese president looked at him in amazement and laughed.

16 donkeys stolen and killed for meat and hide

Unidentified men killed 16 donkeys at a village in Sialkot and fled with their hides and meat, reports Express (April 22, 2015). The carcasses were found in a drain.

Wife declines to go home without expensive cellphone

Reported in Dunya (April 23, 2015) while shopping in Chichawatni, a woman asked her husband to buy a Rs 12,000 mobile phone, but he said he could only afford the Rs 6,000 one. She declined to go back home and created a scene in the market (sar-e-bazaar hangama) despite the husband’s requests (minnat samaajat).

Former cricketer caught frolicking with women 


Reported in Dunya (April 24, 2015) a former cricketer and his friends were caught frolicking (rang raliyan) with women in a raid in Lahore. They were taken to the police station, but were allowed to go home after a senior policeman intervened.

Senate deputy chairman travels like common man

According to Express (April 23, 2015) Senate deputy chairman Abdul Ghafoor Haideri traveled in a train from Karachi to Rahim Yar Khan like a common passenger, ignoring protocol. Other passengers were surprised to see him (angusht badandan) and came to shake hands with him.

Rat bites sleeping lawmaker in parliament lodges

After a rat bit a woman legislator from PPP sleeping in her room in the Parliament Lodges, four officials were suspended, Nai Baat reports (April 23, 2015). The CDA chairman scolded the director of Parliament Lodges (shadeed sarzanish).

Information Ministry spent Rs 6m on tea for reporters

Nawa-e-Waqt reports (April 24, 2015) journalists ate and drank Rs 6 million worth of Samosas, Pakoras and tea at the Information Ministry in 2013. Rs 7,000 are spent on each reporter who attends press briefings at the ministry’s information center, which hosts about 30 meetings a month.
