Imran Khan Never Requested To Meet COAS Asim Munir: Fawad Chaudhry
PTI chairman Imran Khan never wished to meet Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Gen Asim Munir, claims party's spokesperson Fawad Chaudhry.

"Chairman Imran Khan has never made any request to meet Army chief or any of his representatives likewise President has never approached Chairman PTI with any suggestion of Army Chief for meeting Shahbaz Sharif, speculations in this regard are baseless," Fawad said in a tweet on Tuesday.

The tweet came hours after senior journalist Kamran Khan tweeted about the COAS telling the business community that he had sent a message to the former premier via President Arif Alvi for a meeting with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, which Imran did not agree to.

Kamran Khan went on to add that Imran did desire a meeting with the COAS which was denied, as Gen Asim did not want to interfere in the political process.

According to the senior journalist, Gen Asim's meeting with the businessmen last night lasted three and a half hours, which was also participated by Finance Minister Ishaq Dar.

Imran Khan and Asim Munir have a long history going back to when General Asim Munir was the DG of ISI and in 2019 had brought information to the prime minister about his Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar's alleged involvement in corruption with the help of Farah Gogi and Ahsan Jamil Gujjar.

The prime minister, instead of taking action against his chief minister, got Asim Munir removed from the position and appointed Lt Gen (r) Faiz Hameed in his place.

"COAS and FM recognised the economic crisis but were confident that SLA [Staff-level agreement] with IMF will be achieved soon," he said.

On Friday, Imran Khan was quoted as saying to the journalists that he was ready to talk to General Asim for the ‘country’s betterment’.

In a lengthy talk with media person in Lahore, he had reported to have insisted he now had no 'quarrel with the establishment.'

The talks had dilated upon politics, the PTI chief’s rift with former COAS Bajwa, current ties with military, and the reasons why he chose not to fly to the federal capital for court hearings.

As per multiple reports, Imran had also observed on the occasion that it seemed that the incumbent army chief considered him his enemy, and he challenged him to prove any case of corruption against him and his wife Bushra Bibi.
