Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif has strongly criticized former chief justice of Pakistan (CJP) Saqib Nisar for allegedly working as an "agent" for Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) during his tenure as the top judge.
While mentioning the audio leak of the former CJP's son, Najam Saqib, Shehbaz asserted that he is a participant in a plot to install PTI Chairman Imran Khan into office.
It is pertinent to mention here that an audio leak emerged online in which a former chief judge was dealing with PTI candidate Abuzar Chadhar on the distribution of party tickets for the upcoming Punjab elections.
PM Shehbaz made his remarks while speaking to journalists in London, where he is now on vacation after attending King Charles III's coronation. During his visit, the prime minister also had a meeting with Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PMLN) supremo Nawaz Sharif.
He said that Nawaz was disqualified due to accusations that were wholly unfounded and untrue. He also claimed that former CJP Saqib Nisar waged a retaliatory campaign against the PMLN in order to rig an election and install Imran Khan as prime minister.
According to PM Shehbaz, the former CJP Saqib Nisar used suo motu notices for his own political and personal gain rather than for the sake of the nation.
He added that the audio leak of the former CJP's son is evidence that a plot was formed to install the PTI chief Imran Khan, in which Nisar himself was also implicated. He added that the ex-chief judge and his son had been asked by the House committee to testify regarding their role in the sale of tickets for Rs 120 million.
PM Shehbaz said that the elections will be held across the country on the same day, and the parliament will take absolute control of the situation.
"Elections will happen on a single day. In the past, there was a false perception that Punjab was the largest of the provinces. Every province is equal," he added.
The prime minister further emphasized that the parliament will speak with one voice and that its constitutional rights will be upheld.
