Cricketing authorities in New Zealand have confirmed that they are talking to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for a rescheduled tour of Pakistan, after PCB Chairman Ramiz Raja briefed the enate Standing Committee on Inter-Provincial Coordination about such talks earlier this week.
New Zealand Cricket (NZC) have confirmed that they are in talks, with Chief Executive David White leading the negotiations from that side. The possibility has been raised by both NZC and PCB that this tour could take place before 2023.
In his remarks to the Senate committee, PCB chairman Ramiz Raja had mentioned the possibility of the New Zealand cricket team rescheduling its earlier cancelled tour of Pakistan, describing this as “good news.” He further told the Senators: “The PCB may put forward its terms before the NZC by choosing the month of November in 2022 for the rescheduling of the recently postponed series.”
The abrupt cancellation of the New Zealand team's tour while it was actually present in Pakistan, citing security threats, had caused great disappointment amongst Pakistan cricket fans. Soon after this, the England cricket team backed out of its own scheduled tour of Pakistan.
PPP Senator Raza Rabbani had suggested that the PCB ought to reject the New Zealand offer of a tour, in protest against the earlier abrupt cancellation. “What if we do not allow the New Zealand tour?” he had asked. The PCB chairman opposed such a stance, telling Rabbani: “We have to live with them. But we can tell them that Pakistan can find a time window for the tour at some point in 2022.”
