Faiz Hameed Offered Me Senate Chairmanship But I Refused, Claims Fazl
Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has claimed that former Inter-Service Intelligence (ISI) DG Lieutenant-General (retd) Faiz Hameed had offered him the position of Senate chairman.

The disclosure was made by Fazl, who also serves as the leader of the PDM, in Peshawar during a casual discussion with media persons.

Fazl said that the former spymaster had requested a meeting, but he declined. Without specifying the location or the time, Fazl said that he later met him personally.

The PDM chief quoted the former top spy as saying, "I want to see you as a senator and then chairman [of the upper chamber of parliament].

In response, the former ISI commander allegedly demanded that he adjust the system, but Fazl refused.

Following his rejection, the opposition in the country was split, Fazl added.

In response to a query, the PDM chief stated that all political parties concurred that the 2018 elections were fraudulent. He also stated that the then-opposition should not have taken an oath.

The JUI-F chief said that rather than participating in the assemblies, the opposition should have taken to the streets and pressured the government to quit.

In response to a different question, the leader of the ruling alliance stated that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had indicated that they would quit the government once their term ended in the next month.

Speaking about recent political gatherings in the UAE, the JUI-F chief disclosed that he was not taken into confidence over the meetings in Dubai.
