Pakistan World

Shehzad Ghias gives us a little peek into the diary of a feudal landlord

Pakistan World
Feudal Landlords should sue HBO for copying their way of life in the show Westworld. A world where the rich can do anything to anyone without fear of retaliation from the hosts or any sort of repercussions? How is this any different from life in Pakistan?

As a feudal landlord in Pakistan I was ecstatic in 1947 as it meant I could subjugate a population for generations in a free country. I no longer had to serve the British and pay them taxes for the right to exploit farmers on my land. I could exploit them without taxation. This was my Pakistan dream.

We landlords have been the economic backbone of the country for decades. Without us existing and enslaving people, millions of people would be emancipated and ask for their rights - and who wants that? Next thing you know, we will have a Poor Lives Matter movement in Pakistan, looking to turn our country of the Pure into a western liberal disaster of a country.
People should work for their meals - much like I have peasants working for me for my meals

Life in Pakistan for us landlords is a dream. We are not uneducated. In fact, we have modeled our worlds around the work of Thomas Hobbes - one man’s nightmare is a landlord’s dream. We have to ensure that we continue exploiting our farmers on the land, to ensure they do not get grand ideas such as the one (horror!) that they are human beings too. Thomas Hobbes demands this much from us.

This is why despite accumulating so much wealth I still prefer to live my life out in my village. The cities have been corrupted too much by ideas of human rights and the false grandeur of civilisation. I was appalled to see an additional district judge being reprimanded for gently teaching his servant a lesson. Who are we to judge the person’s action? If anyone is to judge, it should be him as the word is literally in his job title.

The poor father of the girl himself has forgiven the suspect and his wife - who are we to intervene in this domestic matter?

There is also no sense of foul play here. It is alleged that the couple wrongly confined the little girl, burned her hand, beat her with a ladle, detained her in a store room and threatened her with dire consequences. What could such a lovely couple possibly do to a poor father - whose child was already exploited for labour by this family - to get him to forgive them not of his own accord?

It is clear that this forgiveness comes from the heart. If it was up to me, there would be no need for forgiveness. If the father did not want his children exploited he would have worked harder to become rich rather than crying about how the world works. Charles Darwin said ‘survival of the richest’ – see, I told you I am educated.

We are fully capable of doing the work ourselves. We do not keep servants to get them to do the work for us. We keep them so that we have someone to take our frustrations out on at the end of the day. It makes us feel better about ourselves by exploiting those less privileged than us. I was born into wealth so quite obviously I was ordained by God to rule over everybody poorer than me.

It makes me feel great when I take my servants to restaurants and I eat at the table while I make them sit there and watch me eat. I am rich enough to buy food for the entire village but I do not want to give out any handouts. People should work for their meals - much like I have peasants working for me for my meals.

And if anybody decides to forget their place, I can just shoot them. Forget Westworld, this is Pakistan World and there is no hope of the hosts become conscious or emancipated or self-sufficient here. Our programming is way better than Arnold and Ford’s. There is no escape from the Platonic cave.

My apologies: I have to end this journal entry as another political party claiming to speak on behalf of the people and promising to emancipate the people of Pakistan is at my door begging to give me a party ticket so they can ensure they win the seat from my district.

Politics in Pakistan is like Waves. Naam hee kafi hay.
