Quetta: "Today's protest is not the end but the beginning of a protest movement if Ali Wazir is not released immediately", warned Mahmood Khan Achakzai while addressing a huge crowd thronged out in Quetta city on the call of Pakhtoonkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) against the incarceration of Ali Wazir, an elected member of National Assembly.

The procession started from the Metropolitan Park headed by Chairman of PkMAP Mahmood Khan Achakzai, and converged into a public gathering in Bacha Khan Square after marching through Jinnah road, Qandahari Bazar, Liaqat, Prince and Masjid roads. The countrywide protest against Ali's captivity was announced by Achakzai on 2 December, on the eve of Khan Shaheed Abdul Samad Khan Achakzai's martyrdom anniversary in Quetta.

“December 16 is a black day in the history of Pakistan as on the same day Pakistan dismembered in 1971 and our children massacred in APS Peshawar in 2014. Unfortunately, on same day we are protesting for the release of Ali Wazir, an elected member of parliament. All these catastrophes are the outcomes of the same mentalities and policies which did not changed after so much destructions,” Achakzai lamented.
He said that the judges of superior judiciary should introspect that if Ali Wazir has been unlawfully incarcerated for two years, just to satisfy the ego of the powerful, then they should act to uphold the basic human and constitutional rights of a citizen. Achakzai also appealed to bar associations and members of parliament across the aisle to raise their voice for Ali Wazir.
While elaborating further, Achakzai said that today Pakistan is really in a very precarious situation and the only remedy is the supremacy of the constitution, parliament and the belief in equity, pluralism and true federal democracy.
"The so-called war on terror and your policy in this regard cost the lives of more than 13 members of Ali Wazir’s family, so what else do you expect from him?", Achakzai asked.
He also appealed to PDM and PPP to play their role in Ali’s case. He reminded PPP that the Sindh courts granted bail to Rao Anwar, the murderer of 444 citizens, but the same Sindh government and judiciary is hellbent on keeping Ali Wazir behind bars, Achakzai regretted.
“In the name of jihad, you grouped the rogues from all over the world in FATA, particularly in Waziristan. I warned you at time on various forums including parliament that do not play with this fire, but no one paid heed, and today you are tasting your own medicines.”
Achakzai warned again to stop fantasies of trying to turn Afghanistan into Pakistan's fifth province, "you can no longer do that" he said. On the other hand, he advised Taliban that they could not rule Afghanistan through the barrel of a gun, therefore they must resort to dialogue for a broadbased, inclusive government to move forward. He appreciated the Taliban's move of allowing former Afghan president Hamid Karzai to travel abroad.
