Pakistan has failed to protect its Christians, Hindus, Ahmadiyya, Sikh, Parsis & Shia

One year after the devastating mob attacks on churches and Christian settlements in Jaranwala, Punjab—sparked by false allegations of Quran desecration—the survivors are still grappling with the aftermath as the investigation remains stalled. Despite directives from the Supreme Court of Pakistan, the Punjab authorities have yet to submit an updated inquiry report. At a recent commemoration organized by the Cecil & Iris Chaudhry Foundation in Lahore, CSJ Executive Director Peter Jacob while speaking to the New Wave Global, criticized the lack of progress in the investigation and the systemic failures that have led to a lack of accountability. Hina Jilani, senior lawyer and former chair of the HRCP, condemned the state's failure to protect religious minorities. Saroop Ijaz from Human Rights Watch emphasized the urgent need for robust legal and political measures to ensure accountability for perpetrators.
