India has been a leading player in the global Services and Information Technology sector for decades and is projected to achieve even greater heights. Successive Indian governments recognized the industry's growth potential, supporting it by establishing technology and internet clusters and parks across the country. In this episode on global politics and the economy, host Rabia Mehmood speaks with Haroon Khawaja, a governance and economic expert who served as an advisor to former Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif until 2012 and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in the late 1990s. Khawaja discusses how the IT sector boomed in the United States and then in India, highlighting why Pakistan failed to capitalize on this sector despite early successes in communication technology in the 1990s. He attributes Pakistan's setbacks to political instability. He also shares insights on the future of Artificial Intelligence in the IT sector and explains why India still has challenges to overcome to lead in IT innovation.
