Pakistan: Women fighters join Balochistan insurgency | Military operations & human rights

In this episode of New Wave Global, Rabia Mehmood speaks with Dr. Mahvish Ahmad, Assistant Professor of Human Rights at the London School of Economics (LSE), and Sammi Deen, General Secretary of Voice of Baloch Missing Persons, about why Baloch young women are joining the separatist insurgency and human rights abuses in Balochistan by the security forces. Ahmad and Deen also put into context as to why the Baloch youth are left with limited options for accessing resources and demanding greater political autonomy. Both also highlight the online targeting of human rights activists and dissidents who speak out against atrocities in the province. Days after recording this podcast, Sammi Deen was barred from boarding a flight to Oman and informed that her name had been placed on a no-fly list by authorities.
