A Hindu family working at a farm in a village near Rahim Yar Khan was tortured and held hostage for getting water from a mosque's tap by landlords who accused them of 'violating the sanctity' of the mosque.
Dawn reported that the incident took place a few days ago. A Hindu man, Alam Ram Bheel, was working in a field of Chak 106-P along with his wife and other family members when the family went to a nearby mosque to quench their thirst. Local landlords and their employees beat up the family for drinking water from the mosque tap. They were tortured again while returning home after finishing their work in the fields. This time the landlords also held the family hostage outside their dera.
The family was released upon the intervention of some Muslim residents.
The victim, Ram Bheel, was quoted as saying that the culprits were related to a local PTI lawmaker due to which the police refused to register the case. He said that he held a sit-in along with a man from the Christian community outside the Airport Police Station, but to no avail.
