‘We Apologise’: Taliban Arrest Officials Who Removed Pakistan’s Flag From Trucks

The Afghan Taliban say they have arrested officials who removed Pakistan’s flag from aid trucks that arrived in Afghanistan through the Torkham border carrying essential food items.

As many as 17 container trucks carrying donated food items from Pakistan departed towards Afghanistan on Sunday. At the time, Pak-Afghan Cooperation Forum Chairman Habibullah Khan had said that the goodwill gesture from Pakistan was organized to assist the impoverished people of Afghanistan who urgently needed assistance.

Later, however, a video emerged on social media of Taliban officials removing Pakistan’s flag attached to the side of a truck. Loud cheers and chants could also be heard as the flag is removed.

In response to the video, Taliban spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid said in a statement that the entire cabinet of the Islamic Emirate was “saddened” by the incident.

“Surely, this incident must have hurt the sentiments of our neighbouring country for which we apologise,” he said. He added that the group wanted “good relations” with Pakistan.
