Different gifts


The leader of the Jamaat-e-Islami, Siraj-ul-Haq, was quoted by Daily Express (21 Nov 2016) as saying that he gets only dates and aab-e-Zamzam as gifts from Saudi Arabia, and that he finds it difficult to imagine how the rulers of Pakistan get steel mills as gifts from that country. He went on to say that if the rulers were found guilty of corruption, not even the Qatari prince could save them.

Consequences: “Off with you to another province!”


According to Daily Jang (24 Nov 2016), the Chairman of the National Highway Authority (NHA) was subject to two fines on the Motorway within 25 minutes. The patrolling officers responsible for the fines have been suffering the consequences ever since – having been transferred from Swabi in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province to Gwadar in Balochistan. Subsequently, the Federal Services Tribunal (FST) directed that the transfer orders be revoked, but the Motorway Police department has now decided to move the Supreme Court against this decision of the FST.

Batting in ideal conditions?


Daily Jang (21 Nov 2016) quoted Asif Ali Zardari as saying that Imran Khan wishes to score six runs on every ball, and that if in this process he loses wickets, nobody else is responsible. He went on to say that Khan is uniquely coddled (anokha laadla) and insists on having ideal conditions to play in (khelan ko maangay Chandni), which he specified to be the highest office in the country.  The former President also said that when Khan becomes a politician, then he will deal with him.

“Only on silver screen”?


Daily Jang (23 Nov 2016) reported that PML-N leaders Daniyal Aziz and Talal Chaudhry launched a series of accusations at PTI leader Imran Khan. They alleged that he was involved in all sorts of illicit activities and that he could only become Prime Minister in a film.

Daily Jang (22 Nov 2016) quoted Jamaat-e-Islami leader SIraj-ul-Haq as saying that if the courts were to hang upside down some crocodiles,then their coming generations would not dare to engage in corruption.

Modi and his big heart!


Daily Nawa-i-Waqt (26 Nov 2016) quoted Indian Prime Minister Modi as asserting the exclusive right of Indian farmers to water considered as belonging to his country. He stated that India would not give any of its water to Pakistan, and would work to stop every drop of this water from reaching the latter country.

Not enough of an incentive to show up for the job?


Daily Dunya (25 Nov 2016) reported that the National Assembly was unable to ensure attendance by its members despite the announcement of a large increase in their pay just a day before. The report stated that the Speaker of the Assembly had to end the session after the opposition pointed out that the quorum for attendance had not been met.

Sloshed… and soaring


Daily Nawa-i-Waqt (27 Nov 2016) reported that Indian pilots are taking the lead in alcoholism. The report stated that the Indian minister for Civil Aviation testified before Parliament that in the period from 01 January 2016 to 31 October 2016, so far a total of 38 pilots and 114 staff and crew members were found to have failed pre-flight alcohol tests.

It was reported by Daily Dunya (26 Nov 2016) that the National Telecom IT Security Board issued a notice to members of the Lahore police to prevent them from installing the game Pokemon Go on their cellular phones, due to the security risks to which it exposes users.
