In an early morning development, the Prime Minister's Office in Islamabad has confirmed that it has received the summary for the appointment of the next Chief of Army Staff.
The summary contains six nominees for the highly coveted post of the army chief, and the Prime Minister's Office confirmed reception of the summary around 9 AM on Wednesday morning.
"The PM Office has received the summary from the Ministry of Defence with a panel of names for the appointment of Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee and Chief of the Army Staff," the PM Office said on Twitter. The tweet added that the prime minister will now make a decision based on the 'laid down procedure'.

Earlier on Wednesday, after a brief delay, the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) had confirmed around 12 AM that the summary had been sent to the federal government. Half an hour before that Defence Minister Khawaja Asif had tweeted that the PMO had not yet received the summary notice.
According to prior media reports, ARY News reported that among the names, Lt Gen Asim Munir was placed in the first position, Lt Gen Sahir Shamshad Mirza in the second, Lt Gen Azhar Abbas in the third, Lt Gen Nauman Mahmood in the fourth, Lt Gen Faiz Hameed in the fifth and Lt Gen Muhammad Amir on the sixth position in the seniority list.
