Future reprisals

Sources say a senior bureaucrat has resigned fearing future reprisals on the mother of all environmental scams. Apparently, this has to do with the so-called Billion Tree Tsunami scheme, of which one third have been planted in our frontier regions, with no explanation about where the rest have gone. The said officer was asked to sign off on some controversial claims of his department and he refused, saying, “I do not want to become the next Ahad Cheema”. He also put in a note, says our mole, that the billions of rupees in the same account be transferred to the Coronavirus Fund, amidst howls of protest from his department. The latter wanted him to sign off on controversial allocations of the same fund.

Feuds galore

Our mole says there are feuds galore within The Great Khan’s horde, with the principal ones being between the cabinet, the home office and some newly minted advisors. These new advisors are flavour of the month, and are in danger of displacing the old-new warhorses, as opposed to the really old warhorses which were put out to pasture last year. Readers have to read between the lines, sadly, given The Great Khan’s tolerance of the free press. So, the old warhorses which joined The Horde back in the day at the instigation of a former Pasha, bit the dust long ago. They were replaced by a string of unelected advisors who enjoyed their moment in the sun, got The Great Khan to sign off on some ill-advised policies and were then shown the door. The latter have now been substituted by yet more unelected advisors who’ve got the cabinet grumbling and the home office resentful. Take your pick, folks!

Vindication

If there’s one person who’s come out from the country’s unfolding disaster in a favourable light, it’s former premier SKA. Not only did he conduct himself with competence and probity while in office, he was also courageous and dignified when incarcerated. Not surprisingly he’s been vindicated for his decision to link the price of gas to Brent oil, which windfall Pakistan is now reaping. But you won’t heart this truth from anyone in power, you can depend upon that.
