Former chief justice of Pakistan Saqib Nisar visited ousted prime minister Imran Khan's residence in Zaman Park, Lahore earlier today (Wednesday), where the two reportedly met to discuss 'legal matters'.
It was reported by Geo News that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman and former prime minister had been wanting to meet with the former chief justice, which is why the latter went to visit Khan at his residence.
This development came right as the Lahore High Court (LHC) had ordered Punjab Governor Osama Sarfaraz Cheema to complete Punjab Chief Minister-Elect Hamza Shahbaz's oath-taking by April 28th. However, reports about the meeting suggest that Nisar denied discussing the political situation of Punjab with Khan.
The former chief justice did however express his concerns and reservations over the social media campaign being carried out against the judiciary, saying that the current public perception of the judiciary is wrong, and there are many good and competent judges present.
Nisar also said that the two of them did discuss legal options, but as to what those legal options were about, he did not divulge.
In November of last year, an audio clip was leaked in which the former chief justice was heard instructing another judge to put former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam Nawaz in jail. The leaked audio generated a lot of backlash, and Nisar claimed it to be fabricated. Imran Khan termed it an attack on the judiciary by Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N)
Neither Nisar nor Khan have issued any official statements regarding their meeting earlier today.
