Rawalpindi's most wanted gangster and dacoit Bilal Sabit, who was allegedly involved in the murders of several police and Intelligence Bureau (IB) officials, has been killed in a joint intelligence operation by the IB and the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) police.
The encounter also killed another dacoit Imtiaz Ahmed, and wounded one more. Bilal Sabit had been highly wanted by the twin cities police for a while due to his frequent targeting of police personnel, and according to a police officer, he had targeted tens of police officers in the last year alone.
“He opened fire at two police officials in Sector D-12 on June 19, when they were heading towards Golra police station, but both the cops narrowly escaped," the official said, adding that they registered an FIR against Bilal and his aide under terrorism charges.
Bilal was also responsible for the murder of Station House officer Shakeel Khan in Peshawar, and Additional Secretary Noman Afridi of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, as well as eight officials of the IB, in addition to three other police officers. He had also targeted officials of the Pakistan Administrative Services (PAS), as well as the IG Motorway and his brother.
The police had sought the assistance of the IB to nab the dacoit who had been involved in hundreds of terror instances specifically against police personnel.
“The activities of the gangsters were put under strict surveillance of the intelligence agency and different teams of police and IB kept monitoring of their activities,” police sources said.
According to a news report by Dawn, the police were able to track him down after he stole a car in Rawalpindi and attempted to drive it out of the city.
When apprehended by the police, Bilal and his accomplice Imtiaz opened fire on the security officials, resulting in the death of one passerby. After this, the team retaliated and shot Bilal and his accomplice dead.
