Aleem Khan sees treachery


According to Daily Dunya (07 August 2017), the PTI’s Abdul Aleem Khan stated that those who consider the disqualified Nawaz Sharif to be their hero are committing treason (ghadaari) against the constitution and the law.


Siraj-ul-Haq is pleased


The Jamaat-e-Islami’s Siraj-ul-Haq, according to Daily Dunya (07 August 2017), expressed his view that it was a success that the rulers had left their aircraft and come out onto G.T. Road.


A law unto themselves


Police in Karor Lal Esan, district Layyah, tried stopping a suspicious-looking pickup vehicle, whose driver attempted to escape. He was caught and arrested. According to Daily Dunya (07 August 2017), more than 40 of his relatives then proceeded to raid the police station, depriving a police operative of his mobile phone and money in the process. Police have registered cases against 47 individuals.


Who is it this time?


According to Daily Jang (08 August 2017) PTI chief Imran Khan asked who had directed Nawaz Sharif to take to the streets. Khan recalled the time when his own party took to the streets in protest and were accused of trying to derail democracy.


A response could be painful…


According to Daily Dunya (08 August 2017), Reham Khan responded to PTI’s Murad Saeed and his allegations that she was linked to opponents of the party by saying that she could respond to his accusations with evidence, but that it could be traumatic for him (sadma pohanchay ga).


Battle Royale


Opposing parties in a feud appeared before a Lahore sessions court, but were unable to contain their differences during the proceedings – resulting in a clash in the courtroom that left two young men injured. According to Daily Dunya (08 August 2017), officials then took both sides into custody and moved them to Islampura police station.


Of qanoon and khatun


The PTI’s Fawad Chaudhry was quoted by Daily Jang (09 August 2017) as saying that his party had relied on law (qanoon) for the Panama case, whereas the PML-N was relying on khatun (woman).


Precautionary measures


Daily Dunya (10 August 2017) reported that before Nawaz Sharif’s procession departed from Punjab House and headed for D Chowk in the federal capital, seven black goats were sacrificed.


Fork in the road?


According to Daily Nawa-i-Waqt (12 August 2017), even as Nawaz Sharif’s procession hit G.T. Road, his brother the Chief Minister of Punjab Shahbaz Sharif took a different role (mukhtalif kirdaar samnay aaya): he was seen to be focusing on his administrative duties in the provincial government that day.

Daily Express (13 August 2017) quoted PML-N leaders as saying that the Constitution and law came afterwards, and that the votes of the people took precedence.
