Pickpockets pardoned after pro-PTI slogans


Dunya reports (April 25, 2016) PTI workers caught three pickpockets from their public rally in Lahore, but they did not turn them over to the police. Instead, they let them go in exchange for chanting slogans in favor of Imran Khan and the party.

12-year-old groom weeps after police stops wedding


According to Nawa-e-Waqt (April 27, 2016) police raided a wedding in Khanewal in which the bride was 10 and the groom 12. Everyone ran away, except the groom. The boy wept as he looked at the police, and said to one cop: ‘Uncle, please let my wedding go on.’ When the policeman said he could not, the boy began to cry loudly.

Reported in Nawa-e-Waqt (April 26, 2016) food authorities in Kasur seized 400 kilograms of dead chickens from a meat center. The meat was to be supplied to Lahore.

Faceoff at PTI dinner 


According to Jang (April 27, 2016) PTI leaders Shah Mahmood Qureshi and Chaudhry Sarwar exchanged harsh words (talkh jumlon ka tabadla) in the presence of Imran Khan at a dinner in Lahore. The argument worsened and they began to abuse each other (gaalam galoch). Imran Khan was so angry that he left without eating.

Power crisis in the corridors of power


Dunya reports (April 28, 2016) power supply to the MNA hostel in Islamabad was cut off because of unpaid bills amounting to Rs 26 million. The lawmakers were very upset and said IESCO officials were disrespectful towards them. ‘They don’t pay their bills,’ one official reportedly said, ‘and claim to be members of parliament’ (member banay phirday nay).

10 airport security passes stolen in a day 


As many as 10 officers at the Lahore airport had their security passes stolen in one day, Jang reports (April 28, 2016). Protective measures were heightened at the premises after the incident.

Pursuit of happiness


According to Express (April 29, 2016) a woman got her husband detained by the police for cruelty under the new Protection of Women Act, complaining that their house did not have cable TV and he never brought fruit for her. A resolution was reached when the man guaranteed in writing that he would bring her fruit and get a cable TV connection.

Crackers at Lahore airport 


Reported in Dunya (April 30, 2016) three fun loving young men (manchalay naujawan) had to pay dearly (mehnga par gya) for welcoming their relatives returning from Umrah at the Lahore Airport, after they set off crackers in the airport lounge. There was chaos (afra-tafri) in the lounge, visitors and passengers were scared (khauf-o-hiras) and security forces were alarmed (dorrain lag gaeen). The men were arrested, but police said they would be allowed to leave after interrogation.

Loaded rocket launchers in garbage dump


Children in Kala Shah Kaku discovered two loaded rocket launchers on a heap of garbage, reports Nawa-e-Waqt (April 30, 2016). They began to shout, and the people of the neighborhood called the police. They were disabled by the bomb disposal squad.

According to Express (May 1, 2016) bowler Muhammad Aamir welcomed batsmen Salman Butt with an aggressive (khaufnak) over when they faced each other in Pakistan Cup six years after they were found guilty of spot fixing. The over included two bouncers and two short-pitched deliveries that Salman had to duck.
