Nawa-e-Waqt reports (April 4, 2016) when a senior police officer was visiting churches and parks in Lahore to monitor heightened security after the Easter bomb attack in the city, he found a policeman guarding the Gulshan-e-Iqbal Park sleeping on duty. He was suspended from service.

Power corrupts


According to Jang (April 5, 2016) after a WAPDA meter reader showed up at the house of a police officer in Lahore, he was picked up from his office and beaten up. Other WAPDA workers protested, and alleged that the police training academy in the city was stealing electricity.

Angry lawyers lock woman judge’s court 


Dunya reports (April 6, 2016) a lawyer pleading a case before a woman judge at a sessions court in Lahore became angry and there was an altercation. Several lawyers threw the judge out of the room and locked it from outside to stop her from hearing any more cases. The room was opened four hours later, after a senior judge intervened.

Reported in Jang (April 7, 2016) bottled water sold by 22 famous brands in Pakistan was found to contain germs and chemical pollutants that may cause cancer, jaundice, and heart, kidney and liver diseases.

Dollars on Sheikhupura streets 


According to Nawa-e-Waqt (April 7, 2016) a nouveau riche family in Sheikhupura began to throw American dollars in the air, instead of Pakistani currency, during a wedding procession. There was a major traffic jam in the city as people took to the roads to pick up dollars, and minor injuries were reported in a number of motorcycle accidents.

Love letters mistaken for espionage


Reported in Dunya (April 8, 2016) an Indian Muslim who used to exchange love letters with his Pakistani lover in Urdu language was deemed a Pakistani spy and arrested. It took him 11 years to prove his innocence. He could not stay in touch with the girl and does not know if she has married someone else.

Bannu councilors wrestle at oath taking ceremony 


Express reports (April 8, 2016) councilors elected in the local polls in Bannu began to wrestle each other (gutham gutha) during their oath taking ceremony. Councilors from the PTI lost temper when they saw their comrades sitting with members of another party. A fight (hatha pai) ensued. Several people were injured and some furniture was destroyed. PTI then boycotted the event.

Saudi Arabia gifts 396 tons of dates to Pakistan


According to Dunya (April 9, 2016) Saudi Arabia has sent a gift of 396 tons of dates to the people of Pakistan. The fruit will be distributed among 148,000 registered Pakistani families.

Mustafa Kamal couldn’t register his party


Express reports (April 9, 2016) the election commission office in Karachi returned Mustafa Kamal’s application to register his party because it was incomplete. It did not contain a constitution, a manifesto, details of party’s assets, or a list of its office bearers and how they were elected.

Rickshawala arrested after girls complain of vulgar songs


According to Jang (April 10, 2016) a rickshaw driver was arrested for playing vulgar songs in loud volume while there were girls sitting in his vehicle. The girls had told him to shut down the music, but he did not listen, so they called the 15 police emergency helpline.
