A car plowed through a Gaza solidarity demonstration near the D-Chowk in front of the Parliament in Islamabad on Monday, killing at least two demonstrators and injuring three more.
The rally was organized by Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Senator Mushtaq Ahmed Khan. According to a spokesperson for the JI, an unidentified man plowed over the demonstrators early this morning.
According to police sources, the driver of the car was taken into custody by law enforcement personnel, and the vehicle was confiscated at the Kohsar Police Station.
While addressing the participants of the protest, Senator Mushtaq said the administration and Islamabad police are responsible for the incident, demanding that those responsible for the attack be arrested.
Mushtaq also led a funeral prayer for the deceased JI worker at D Chowk, which was attended by a number of party workers and sympathizers.
Meanwhile, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) senior leader Senator Farhatullah Babar expressed serious concern over the incident and demanded action against the culprits.
In a post shared on X, formerly known as Twitter, the Babar said Islamabad police are showing reluctance in lodging the first information report (FIR) of the brutal incident.
He said that eyewitnesses allege that the police are not going after the real culprit. He expressed serious concern over the incident and demanded the registration of an FIR and transparent investigations.
