Sheikh Hasina, the former Prime Minister of Bangladesh has been ousted after 15 years of authoritarian rule. A students' protest over discriminatory job quotas turned into a nationwide uprising pushing Hasina to flee the country. The army chief announced an interim government would be set-up. Former PM and leader of the opposition party Begum Khaleda Zia has been released, but it remains to be seen what role the military would play now. Violent incidents are reported across the country, and the law and order situation is yet to improve. Sultan Mohammed Zakaria, a researcher of human rights abuses, states the Chhatra League was unleashed by Hasina on the students' movement repeatedly for over a decade, and was used as a militant wing.
