According to Daily Dunya (06 August 2018), the Trump administration informed European companies that if they did not cut off trade ties with Iran, they themselves would be subject to severe consequences.


Difficult travelling companions


Nabil Gabol, according to Daily Dunya (06 August 2018), pushed a fellow air passenger and knocked him to the ground, using coarse language and threatening dire consequences. Gabol’s side of the story was that the individual in question was in a state of intoxication and was heaping obscenities upon Pakistani politicians continuously.


Discontent


Daily Jang (06 August 2018) reported that the dispute over PTI’s selection of a candidate for by-elections in Rawalpindi’s NA-160 constituency was taking a serious turn. Local PTI leaders are infuriated at the possibility that Sheikh Rasheed’s nephew might be given preference over those who sacrificed for the party.


Compelled?


It was reported by Daily Express (06 August 2018) that PTI’s Karachi leader Shamim Naqvi reiterated that he stuck to his accusations against the MQM. He stated that his party had gone to the MQM due to the compulsion of circumstances (majboori), since they had to obtain MQM’s votes to form a government.


No alternative?


Daily Dunya (07 August 2018) reported that the Tehreek-i-Labbaik launched its series of street protests against alleged election rigging from Lahore. The organisation’s leader Khadim Rizvi stated that it was said that he used harsh (sakht) words. Rizvi claimed that if he did not use such words, imams in mosques would today be getting pre-written sermons to deliver.


No more free rides


It was reported by Daily Dunya (07 August 2018) that after losing in the elections, Jamshed Dasti, leader of the Awami Raj Party, had discontinued his bus service that had provided free transport since 2010.

Daily Dunya (07 August 2018) reported that the central General-Secretary of the Jamiat-e-Ulema Pakistan and spokesperson for the MMA expressed his view that India was involved in the burning of the girls’ schools in Diamer. To do this was to be an enemy of education (taaleem-dushmani).


Still single and ready to mingle


According to Daily Dunya (08 August 2018), Sheikh Rasheed stated that there would no NRO in New Pakistan (Naya Pakistan). He went on to state that he had no intention of marrying, even in the New Pakistan (Naye Pakistan mein bhee shaadi ka koi iraada nahin).


Pakistani ulema on Saudi-Canada row


The chief of the Pakistan Ulema Council, Hafiz Tahir Ashrafi, was quoted by Daily Dunya (08 August 2018) as saying that Canadian interference in Saudi affairs was worthy of condemnation (qaabil-e-muzammat hai).


Of tea and tabdeeli


Daily Express (12 August 2018) reported that the PTI’s MNA elect Gul Zafar Khan, whose video making tea had gone viral on social media, turned out to be a multi-millionaire (crorepati) who had declared assets of above 3 crores (30 million rupees) to the Election Commission of Pakistan.


Dr. Asim sends his regards


PPP leader Dr. Asim Hussain was quoted by Daily Express (12 August 2018) as saying that Chaudhry Nisar’s election defeat was the result of his curse (bad-dua). Dr. Asim stated that his curse had had an effect on Nisar due to how the latter had treated him.
