Reported in Nawa-e-Waqt (July 10, 2014), two women at a court in Lahore claimed to be the only wife of the same man, creating an amusing situation (dilchasp soorat-e-hal paida ho gaee). The court asked them to produce their marriage certificates and bring the marriage registrars to court.

Airport security officer gets stuck in elevator

Reported in Jang (July 10, 2014), an assistant director of the Airport Security Force was stuck in a lift at the Lahore Airport for 90 minutes. When he was rescued, he was unconscious.

Gilani gets stuck in a delayed flight

According to Jang (July 10, 2014) former prime minister Yousaf Raza Gilani was among the passengers who had to sit inside a plane for two hours because their flight from Lahore to Karachi was delayed. Gilani and the other passengers up in arms (intazamiya kay khilaf shadeed ehtajaj kiya).

Couple held for fake bomb scare at airport

Reported in Nawa-e-Waqt (July 11, 2014), a woman and her acquaintance (aashna) were arrested for creating a false bomb scare at the Lahore Airport. They have been sent on a 14-day judicial remand.

PML-N to give government jobs to loyal workers

According to Nawa-e-Waqt (July 12, 2014), the PML-N is creating a list of more than 100 loyal of its political workers to adjust them in government jobs (mehkmon main khapanay ka faisla). Hamza Shahbaz is overseeing the project.

Sleepwalker climbs a pole and falls

Reported in Nawa-e-Waqt (July 12, 2014), an 18-year-old sleepwalker in Vehari walked to an electricity police while sleeping and began to climb it. But he was thrown off by an electric shock and was injured.

Railways using telephone after communication system failure

According to Dunya (July 13, 2014), the Railways control room in Lahore has lost communication with  Karachi and Multan because of a technical fault, and the officials now communicate over landline telephone. This is costing the department hundreds of thousands of rupees in phone bills every month.

‘People throw electricity bills in our faces’

Reported in Dunya (July 13, 2014) PML-N legislators from Faisalabad told State Minister for Water and Power Abid Sher Ali that the power crisis was causing them unbearable embarrassment. People throw electricity bills in their faces, and it has become impossible for them even to go to funerals.

Helicopter ruins surprise of chief minister’s visit

Reported in Express (July 13, 2014), when Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif made an unannounced visit to a Ramzan Bazaar in Gujranwala, he was surprised how reporters found out about his visit. They told him they had seen a helicopter in the sky. Some PML-N lawmakers also arrived. MPA Khurram Dastgir Khan told the chief minister that since he had started making these unannounced visits, the legislators keep looking at the sky (hamari nazrain asmaan par hee rehti hain).

PTI relief distribution ends in gunfight

Reported in Express (July 13, 2014), a quarrel (talkh kalami) between PTI workers distributing relief goods among the displaced people in Bannu became a shootout (firing ka tabadla), in which one activist died and four others were injured.

The biggest proof of Kalabagh Dam’s viability

Quoted in Jang (July 13, 2014), a former official of the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industries and the Pakistan Poultry Association said the biggest proof of the usefulness of Kalabagh Dam for Pakistan is that India is bribing people in Pakistan to oppose it.

Passengers beat up train driver after 17-hour delay

Reported in Express (July 14, 2014), the Awam Express train was delayed for 17 hours after its engine failed in Rahim Yar Khan and the replaced engine also stopped several times on the way. The passengers lost temper (taish main aa gaye) and beat the driver and the assistant driver up (tashaddud ka nishana banaya). Railway officials at Multan Cantt station brokered a reconciliation between the passengers and the drivers.
