The Great Khan’s tough talk


According to Daily Jang (30 Jan 2017), PTI chief Imran Khan responded to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s threat to stop water supplies to Pakistan by informing him that not every Pakistani is Nawaz Sharif. He also went on to say that he prayed US President Donald Trump halts visas to the US for Pakistanis.

Locked and loaded


Daily Express reported (30 Jan 2017) that when police tried to halt the vehicle of the Chairman of a Union Council in Sargodha, the latter attempted to flee, crashing into a rickshaw in the process. When he was apprehended and arrested, police discovered a Kalashnikov assault rifle, a .222 rifle and lots of ammunition from his possession.

Khan’s ambitions for the Federal level


Referring to the PTI provincial administration providing health cards to the people as a revolutionary step, according to Daily Dunya (04 Feb 2017), PTI chief Imran Khan speculated on the possibility of further extending the service throughout Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa next year, since he might be serving at the Federal level  by then.

According to Daily Express (30 Jan 2017), the leader of the JUI(S) Maulana Sami-ul-Haq stated that Donald Trump has become a danger to world peace. He said the new US President would have to operate through his senses (hosh) and not his passions (josh).

“Research” on the role of women in causing corruption


Daily Express (31 Jan 2017) reported that various personalities in the country, speaking to Express Survey, spoke of the role of women in eliminating corruption. MPA Shehzadi Kabeer was quoted as saying that because husbands and wives fight over finances in the home, men are inclined towards corruption in order to preserve peace and calm at home. MPA Salma Butt was quoted as saying that women are quick to be attracted by manufactured and dubious items and their demands from their husbands led to the latter engaging in corruption.

A Gullu strikes again


According to Daily Express (31 Jan 2017), police in Lahore arrested a man named as Gullu Butt for threatening an SDO of the Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO). The man named as Gullu Butt stands accused of causing disruption and threatening employees of LESCO.

Actress and model Mathira was quoted by Daily Express (31 Jan 2017) as stating that it is not correct to term the ‘item songs’ in films as being a concept copied from a neighbouring country.

Dry future for all communities?


Member of the National Assembly from the PML-N Ramesh Kumar was quoted by Daily Express (01 Feb 2017) as saying that there was a need to curb the sale of alcohol on the excuse of religion. He said that article 37 of the Constitution provided permission for alcohol to non-Muslims, and that there was a need to end this possibility.

DPC smells treachery from the government


According to Daily Nawa-i-Waqt (02 Feb 2017), leaders of the Difa-e-Pakistan Council including Maulana Sami-ul-Haq took the view that the restrictions on Hafiz Saeed were meant to please Modi and Trump. The DPC leaders stated that the government had betrayed the country (ghadaari) by listening to India on the matter.

Hamza Shahbaz is proud to be from among the workers!


Daily Dunya (04 Feb 2017) quoted Hamza Shabaz Sharif as saying that his grandfather worked hard to start their factories anew. He recalled that in school, fellow students would call out at him, calling him a blacksmith (lohaar) but that he was proud to be the son of a worker.
