Cops stealing fuel from official vehicles?

Lahore police has begun a probe into reports that traffic wardens and cops were stealing fuel from their official motorcycles to use in their private vehicles, Express reports (December 15, 2014).

According to Jang (December 16, 2014) while Tehrik-e-Insaf leader Aslam Iqbal was forcing traders on Hall Road to shut down their shops in line with his party’s strike call, his own bakeries around the city stayed open.

Clerks demand bribe for computerization of salaries

Reported in Nai Baat  (December 16, 2014) clerks at Lahore’s health department are asking the staff of the Dengue Control Program for up to Rs 1,500 in bribes to move their account to the new computerized system which was introduced to avoid delays. The workers who declined to pay the sum have not received their salaries in two months.

Sheikh Rashid quarrels with CDA chairman

According to Nai Baat (December 17, 2014) during a meeting of the Public Accounts committee, Sheikh Rashid had a quarrel (jharrap) with the chairman of Capital Development Authority. Sheikh Rashid said he seemed to be involved in corruption. He took offense in being accused of corruption without proof, and said he was happy to quit. Sheikh Rashid said he should go ahead and quit. Leader of the Opposition Khurshid Shah intervened (mamla rafa dafa kara diya).

Islamabad woman gets Public Service Vehicle license

Nawa-e-Waqt reports (December 17, 2014) a woman in Islamabad became the first in the federal capital to be given a Public Service Vehicle driving license. She runs a driving school.

Dispenser caught selling free medicine to poor

Reported in Dunya (December 18, 2014) a dispenser at a public hospital in Nankana asked a patient for a Rs 7,000 bribe for medicine meant to be given out to poor patients for free. He was caught red handed by the anticorruption department.

The dangers of cellphones in Lahore’s police academy

After a woman trainee at the Chuhng police academy in Lahore fell down from the roof while talking on her cellphone, the commandant has banned trainees from listening to mobile phones on the roof, and locked the stairs (Express, December 19, 2014). He has also terminated the internet service in the women’s hostel after reports that they stayed up late to use the internet on their mobile phones.

Hockey team leaves one player behind in India

According to Dunya (December 19, 2014) Pakistan Hockey federation is probing why the management of the junior hockey team that went to participate in the junior hockey world cup in India left one of the players behind. Adnan Anwar was stopped in Amritsar for not reporting to the police. The team decided to return without him.
