Reported in Express (July 30, 2015) Lahore police has arrested a gang of men who robbed people while wearing Burqas. Police seized cash, jewelry, mobile phones and weapons from them.

Imran Khan gets trapped in crowded elevator

According to Dunya (July 31, 2015) Imran Khan was trapped in an elevator at a hotel in Lahore. The lift could only carry five people, but Khan was accompanied by seven, so it shut down, trapping everyone. When the elevator was pulled down, Khan used the stairs.

Karachi, Peshawar and Rawalpindi among world’s dirtiest cities

Jang reports (July 31, 2015) Karachi is the fifth most polluted city in the world, followed by Peshawar and Rawalpindi at numbers six and seven. New Delhi is at the top of the list compiled by the World Economic Forum. Thirteen of the 20 cities on the list are Indian.

PIA staff steals bride’s clothes and jewelry

Reported in Dunya (August 2, 2015) someone at PIA’s cargo service stole bridal outfits and jewelry to be sent abroad to a bride who lives abroad. The goods were worth Rs 1 million. Three men from the security and vigilance department were suspended after the theft.

One million unwanted calls to 15 in two months

Of about 1,022,000 calls received by the police emergency number 15 in Lahore in June and July, only 32,500 were real emergencies, Dunya reports (August 3, 2015). Others were pranks, load shedding complaints, or unnecessary calls. Police has blacklisted 16,855 numbers for repeated prank calls.

10,000 tokens stolen from Rawalpindi metro bus

According to Nawa-e-Waqt (August 3, 2015) passengers of the Rawalpindi metro bus have stolen 10,000 token tickets so far. The escalators are out of order at 11 stations. At some stations, entire families use one token to enter.

Enthusiastic driver puts Imran Khan in danger

In his enthusiasm (phurtiyaan) during a trip to flood-hit areas, Imran Khan’s driver tried to cross a flooded bridge over a stream. The car got stuck in the water. Several vehicles have recently been swept away by the mountain stream. But with his excellent skills (kamaal maharat) he was able to get it to the other side.

American consulate officials ride a rickshaw in Karachi 


Reported in Jang (August 5, 2015) officials of the American consulate in Karachi are crazy about rickshaw rides (rickshay ki sawari kay deewanay). They were very happy when they got to travel on a rickshaw. One compared the painting on the vehicle to the dragons in Game of Thrones, another said it was better than a smart car, and one said he wanted to take a rickshaw with him to the US.

Sindh’s own Broken Arm Bot

Express reports (August 5, 2015) a robot bought for Rs 300 million to assist in surgery at a hospital in Sindh broke an arm and became useless before it was unpacked. The doctor who was trained outside Pakistan to operate the robot retired a month after it was bought.
