Petty crime at the rally


It was reported by Daily Dunya (30 April 2018) that during a rally of the PTI, party spokesperson Fawad Chaudhry was targeted by a pickpocket. He informed the audience that he had written his speech but it had been taken when his pocket was cut, so he would speak without notes.


Across the board


According to Daily Dunya (30 April 2018), Khaadim Hussain Rizvi dismissed the possibility of the TLYR joining MMA, the alliance of religious parties. He further stated that if his arrest could improve the country, he would agree to court arrest. Commenting on the disqualification of Khawaja Asif, he expressed his opinion that everyone in the National Assembly ought to be disqualified.


New Iranian app


Daily Dunya (30 April 2018) reported that Iran had begun promoting an indigenously designed app named Soroush as an alternative to the popular app Telegram. Many new emojis have been introduced as part of the new app, including women wearing hijab and an image of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. New emojis introduced with this app also included one for “Death to America” and another for “Death to Israel”.


Chinese model?


The leader of the Awami Muslim League, Sheikh Rasheed, was quoted by Daily Jang (30 April 2018) as saying that 440 people were shot in China, and that the same ought to be done in Pakistan.


Ambitions of the MMA


Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman, according to Daily Jang (30 April 2018), the religious forces in Pakistan were united, and that enlightened thinking (roshan khyali) had been a problem in every era. The Jamaat-e-Islami chief Siraj-ul-Haq was also quoted in the report. He noted that there was no maulvi in the Panama Leaks, and so the MMA would come to power to end political and moral corruption.


Altaf II?


The PPP’s Bilawal Bhutto Zardari was quoted by Daily Jang (30 April 2018) as saying that the long separated brother of the Taliban (bichray bhai), Imran Khan, could not accept peace in Karachi. He further stated that his party did not want another Altaf in the form of Imran. The PPP leader opined that first Karachi had been run from London, and now there was an effort underway to run it from Bani Gala.


Necessary condition?


Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman, according to Daily Express (05 May 2018), expressed his opinion that it would be Pakistan’s misfortune if Imran Khan were to become Prime Minister. The Maulana added that in order to accept Imran, it would first be necessary to accept Israel.

Daily Nawa-i-Waqt (05 May 2018) quoted ulema as saying that madrassahs were playing their role in defending the nation. The report went on to quote Maulana Amjad Khan expressing his opinion that conspiracies to make Pakistan secular were at their peak, and these would be fought within and outside Parliament – on every front.

Riaz Pirzada was quoted as saying that it seemed as though Shehbaz Sharif had access to djinns (genies), since he was able to complete bridges and other projects in 3 months.

The leader of the Jamaat-e-Islami Siraj-ul-Haq, according to Daily Express (06 May 2018) called on extraterrestrial life forms (khalai makhlooq) to remain in outer space and work there, and allow people on Earth to deal with the problems on Earth.


Naming names


PML-Q leader Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, according to Daily Express (06 May 2018), called upon former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to explain what the extraterrestrial life forms (khalai makhlooq) that he had referred to are, if he has the courage (himmat).
