How to steal an unclaimed bag

Reported in Jang (October 14, 2014), a lady constable found a bag full of cosmetics at the Lahore railway station, and gave it to the administration. She then called her relatives on the phone and told them about the bag so that they could claim it. But the original owner of the bag arrived just in time. The constable was suspended and an inquiry ordered.

Zardari angered by PPP fistfight over Wattoo

According to Nawa-e-Waqt (October 14, 2014) when Asif Zardari was presiding over a meeting of the Sahiwal division of the PPP, two rival factions began to fight. One of them began to chant ‘Go Wattoo Go’. Manzoor Watoo became emotional (jazbati ho gaye) and the two groups began to push and hit each other (dhakam pail, hatha pai). Zardari became angry (paishani shikam-aalood ho gayee) and eventually left.

Film director’s pocket picked at producer’s funeral

At the funeral of a film producer, someone picked famous director Shahzad Rafiq’s pocket, reports Dunya (October 15, 2014). I request the pickpocket to keep the money but please post my cards and documents to my home address, he said.

Sixteen PIA air hostesses ‘disappear’ abroad

Reported in Nai Baat (October 15, 2014), 16 air hostesses of PIA “disappeared” in Canada, France and Britain. Six of them disappeared in September only. Two disappeared their husbands.

Policeman forced to surrender gun at PAT checkpost

Followers of Tahirul Qadri forcefully took away a police constable’s official gun at a “checkpost” they have set up on the constitution avenue, according to Nai Baat (October 16, 2014). He insisted that he was only going to the Supreme Court. They asked him to collect it from their Supreme Court “checkpost”.

CSS examiners are told not to pass too many

The people who check CSS exams are given secret instructions (andar khatay) to pass only 30 or 40 candidates, claims Dunya (October 17, 2014). Officers in the FPSC say they do not to many candidates to pass (Juma bazaar na lagay).

Islamabad airport named worst in the world

Reported in Jang (October 18, 2014) Islamabad’s Benazir International Airport has been named the world’s worst airport in a survey by a Canadian website. They quoted a passenger who compared the airport to a prison, because of overcrowding and aggressive security checks.

Actress warned over ‘Go Nawaz Go’ chants

Actress Zara Akbar was warned over accusations that during a performance in Multan, she made the crowd chant ‘Go Nawaz Go’, Dunya reports (October 18, 2014). She said the crowd had chanted the slogan on its own, after a conversation between her and a co-performer, and promised to be careful in future.

Hijras earn Rs 10,000 for dancing on ‘Go Nawaz Go’

Reported in Nawa-e-Waqt (October 19, 2014), Hijras in Mamu Kanjan earned Rs 10,000 at a wedding when they danced to the slogans ‘Go Nawaz Go’ for several hours, at the request of some guests.

Qadri follower beaten up for eve teasing

According to Nai Baat (October 20, 2014), a follower of Tahirul Qadri was harassing girls before the PAT rally in Lahore. A policeman beat him up. He was taken to the hospital for head injuries.

Girl, 22, leaves home to marry 65-year-old long-distance love

A 22-year-old girl from Islamabad arrived in Khanewal to marry a 65-year-old partially paralyzed man with whom she fell in love over mobile phone, reports Nawa-e-Waqt (October 20, 2014). A member of the Society for Human Rights stopped their marriage and the girl was taken to Darul Aman.

Punjab Assembly members always arrive late

According to Express (October 21, 2014), members of Punjab Assembly have made a habit of arriving late for parliamentary sessions. That is one reason why a provincial assembly performance report by PILDAT put the Punjab Assembly in the fourth place.
