Nawaz Directs PML-N To Prepare For General Elections
Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz supremo Nawaz Sharif has directed his party to prepare for the elections, indicating his possible imminent return to the country ahead of the possible forthcoming polls.

The former premier has also asked his party to be prepared as Punjab Chief Minister Pervez Elahi would seek a vote of confidence from Punjab Assembly this month, according to media reports.

It merits mentioning here that the party chief last week expressed optimism about being with the people and in the country. He made the aforesaid remarks at a Christmas event held in the UK.

Last month, Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah said preparations to welcome party supremo Nawaz Sharif back home were underway.

According to the minister, Nawaz’s return will help the party bag the much-needed votes in Punjab.

He had also challenged the PTI chairman Imran Khan to dissolve Punjab Assembly.

Sanaullah was also recently quoted as saying that the general elections will take place in October 2023. He had also categorically stated that the electioneering of the party will be led by Nawaz himself.

What further fuels the notion are the directives reportedly to the party high-ups to bring the price of petrol under Rs190 per litre before his return.

PML-N sources say the party supremo wants petrol at the aforesaid price as well as relief for power consumers utilising a maximum of 300 units.

The party has been vocal that holding elections early in the country would create political instability, which is direly needed at the time.

However, arch-rivals PTI is of the opinion that polls should be held as early as possible. According to the party, which is in power in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, snap polls are a solution to the prevailing political crisis in Pakistan.

Nawaz has been residing in London since November, 2019 after he was allowed to leave Pakistan to receive medical treatment.
